Hurricane Helene Recovery

Western NC & Augusta, GA
AIS played a key role in delivering full-service disaster relief across three counties in Western North Carolina. From start to finish, our team managed every phase of the project — securing TOLs and ROEs, removing debris from riverbanks, and transporting it to the proper disposal sites. We worked closely with local facilities to ensure all debris was handled and disposed of in an environmentally responsible way. With crews working around the clock, AIS demonstrated its commitment to rapid response, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.
Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP)

AIS has supported projects under the Streamflow Rehabilitation Assistance Program (StRAP), delivering services that help reduce flooding, restore stream capacity, and protect critical drainage infrastructure across North Carolina. Established by the North Carolina General Assembly and administered through the state’s Soil & Water Conservation Commission in partnership with the Division of Soil and Water Conservation, StRAP provides funding for projects that improve the function and resilience of waterways. AIS contributes to these efforts by performing debris removal, stream clearing, and rehabilitation activities that enhance water flow, reduce flood risk, and strengthen infrastructure throughout impacted communities.

California Wild Fires

Wildfire Response & Debris Removal – PG&E
Our team specializes in large-scale wildfire response and post-disaster cleanup. During California wildfire recovery efforts, services were provided to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), with the deployment of more than 700 personnel and 108 debris trucks in support of emergency operations. Through comprehensive pre-planning and a rapid ramp-up strategy, deployment targets were achieved within four days—meeting critical timelines and enabling timely, effective support in fire-impacted areas.
Scope of Work Included:
- Extensive debris removal and hauling
- Vegetation management, including hazard tree identification and cutting
- Coordination with PG&E and subcontractors to support infrastructure restoration
The ability to mobilize quickly, manage complex logistics, and scale operations efficiently positioned the team as a reliable partner in wildfire recovery efforts.
Vegetation Management & Fire Cleanup, Hazard Tree Mitigation - PG&E
Our team provided services to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) in support of multiple large-scale wildfire response efforts across California. These projects focused on vegetation management, emergency tree removal, and debris hauling in fire-impacted areas.
Key Highlights:
- Rapid Mobilization: In December 2018, more than 450 personnel were deployed within three days, including certified climbers, saw operators, equipment specialists, and CDL drivers—fully supported with the necessary heavy equipment and logistics infrastructure.
- Scalable Workforce: By January 2019, the workforce expanded to over 700 personnel, ensuring aggressive timelines were met and operations remained on schedule despite challenging conditions.
- End-to-End Execution: The scope included hazard tree removal, hauling of fire-damaged materials, and coordination with utility crews and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient access for infrastructure restoration. This work demonstrates the ability to rapidly scale operations, deploy specialized teams, and deliver reliable results in complex, high-risk, and time-sensitive environments.
Post-Wildfire Emergency Response & Infrastructure Support –PG&E
In 2021, our team was deployed to remote mountain regions in California immediately following catastrophic wildfires. These areas were largely without infrastructure—no power, water, communications, or accessible roadways—requiring rapid, self-sufficient mobilization to support large-scale hazard mitigation and debris removal operations. Operations focused on clearing burned and actively burning trees, damaged power lines, and other hazardous conditions to establish safe access for utility crews and enable the restoration of critical infrastructure. A comprehensive approach to logistics ensured that all immediate and ongoing needs were addressed, including food, fuel, medical support, and equipment maintenance.
On-site infrastructure was quickly established to support sustained operations, including:
- Temporary housing accommodations for up to 1,500 personnel in coordination with subcontractors
- Mobile kitchen and shower facilities
- Fuel delivery and equipment servicing stations
- Satellite communications and courier systems to replace unavailable local networks
- On-site medical personnel and rapid response protocols
Deployment began while fire suppression efforts were still active, with operations scaling quickly as conditions allowed. Established partnerships with experienced vendors and subcontractors enabled seamless coordination in highly unstable and rapidly evolving environments. This effort highlights the ability to mobilize rapidly, implement large-scale logistical solutions, and deliver reliable support in complex, high-risk disaster recovery scenarios.
Hurricane Florence
Southeastern NC
AIS played a key role in post-disaster recovery efforts across Southeastern North Carolina following Hurricane Florence. These efforts focused on reducing flood risk, restoring stream capacity, and protecting critical drainage and stormwater infrastructure in highly impacted communities.
AIS supported these initiatives through comprehensive debris management and stream clearing efforts that improved water conveyance and mitigated long-term flood impacts. Work included the removal of storm-related debris, sediment, and vegetative obstructions from rivers, creeks, and drainage channels—restoring natural flow paths and increasing hydraulic capacity.
In addition to clearing operations, AIS performed targeted rehabilitation activities such as bank stabilization, erosion control, and the repair of compromised drainage systems. These efforts helped prevent future blockages, reduce sediment buildup, and strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure during subsequent storm events.
